What brand of golf clubs is best for a chick starting out?

I want to start playing golf. I’m 22 years old and I’ve done a little research on golf clubs. I knew going into this that Callaway is probably the best brand, but its also really expensive. Is Wilson a good brand for Women’s golf clubs? I want to spend no more than 2 or 3 hundred dollars on a complete set to start out with. Is that reasonable?

Golf Clubs: Are they really still getting better?

As an avid experienced golfer of nearly 20 years, I have seen and experienced unbelievable improvements in the golfclub. Club shafts have went from hickory, to steel, to graphite, and back to steel again. The clubface packs an MOI higher then ever seen before. Weighting options on most drivers, irons with more forgiveness than ever, yet the golf companies just keep giving us more every year. However, I feel like since 07,08 the clubs themselves have reached their peak in technology, maybe not for good, but a peak none the less. Colors, ad campaigns for “THIS Years Model” keep us coming for more. So my question is, how much better are they getting now? Are 2005-08 clubs just as effective as their newest brother in 2011? Is the Taylormade R11 all that superior over the R7? Are the Callaway X24′s irons vastly improved over the X12′s, 16′s or 20′s? Obviously wear and tear will have an affect, but what is your opinion? What do you use as your weapons of choice?

Should I buy an R11 or Diablo Octane?

I am in high school and my Dad says if I keep my grades up I can get a new driver. I have a high handicap, but my driving is usually not the biggest problem. I used to struggle with a slice, but that is getting a lot better. When I hit it good it usually draws a little. Right now I am deciding between the Taylormade R11 and the Callaway Diablo Octane. I have a high swing speed and average 230 yards off the tee. I would like to have one of those drivers, but if you think a different driver would be better for my game, feel free to suggest it. If it helps, I am currently playing an R5.
Thanks for the answers so far. I am going to Golf Galaxy tomorrow to try a few different drivers on their simulator. I’ll let you know which ones I like.
I am planning on keeping the club that I buy for at least 4-5 years.

I have a handicap index of 13.6 and a course handicap of 15…which one is considered my “handicap”?

this is a little confusing. Also another question. I got a Callaway x 460 tour driver with a stiff shaft last year at the end of the season. It was on sale on the internet so my dad got it for me. however I have been very streaky with it. one week ill be hitting my notmal draw, the next week, the ball will refuse to draw. i dont know if its me but it might have to do that its a tour driver and altho i’m a good ball strker, i dont need a tour driver. should i go get fitted and test drivers (which i did not do with the last purchase), stay with the x 460 tour, or go back to old trustworthy my taylormade R5 40 XD?
PLEASE HELP!

Need help choosing a golf ball?

Hello, I need some help choosing a decently priced golf ball. I swing the driver at around 114-117mph consistently, but my irons are all over the place as far as swing speed and ball striking.I like prov1 and prov1xs, taylormade tps and high end callaway but they’re too expensive to buy brand new. I’m looking for something that I could use for distance without too much spin and are decent around the greens. Thanks
